Emancipating the Anthropocene: The Global Cymbeline Project
As our final blog post, before this website is archived, Cymbeline Anthropocene presents the text of "Emancipating the Anthropocene: The Global Cymbeline Project," a talk by Randall Martin outlining the past three and a half years of this very project. Presented at the Shakespeare Institute in Stratford-upon-Avon in October 2022, the talk is presented here in full transcript, accompanied by presentation slides.
Cymbeline on CBC Ideas

An audio documentary featuring the CA team and collaborators is now available from the IDEAS podcast, which is produced by the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation (CBC). Whether you missed joining us in Montana or virtually in July, or if you wish to revisit the brilliant conversations we were honoured to host, these videos are now free and accessible to most of the world.
Announcement: CA documentary on CBC Ideas
Cymbeline in the Anthropocene is pleased to announce the air date for a mini-documentary featuring our project and collaborators created by Pauline Holdsworth of IDEAS. A long-running culture and politics radio show produced by the Canadian Broadcasting Company (CBC), IDEAS will feature Cymbeline in the Anthropocene on their upcoming September 7th episode, airing at 8pm local time in Canada (8:30 in Newfoundland). The show will later be available on demand on the CBC Podcasts app.
Performance Symposium Underway!
Our Eco-Shakespeare and Performance Symposium is well underway! Day 1 was a resounding success featuring performance excerpts and discussion from three of our collaborating theatre companies, and video of the full day is available on our Youtube channel. We have just begun our live stream of Day 2's sessions, which include four more collaborating companies.
Eco-Shakespeare in Performance Symposium: July 18-20
Cymbeline in the Anthropocene is pleased to announce the culmination of our international, collaborative performance project. In July, our research team and representatives from many of our collaborating theatres will meet in-person and virtually in Bozeman, Montana for a hybrid symposium showcasing the work of seven eco-theatrical productions of Cymbeline.
Setebos Interviews: Nicolás McCormick
In this fifth and final interview with the cast and crew of Mónica Maffía's Setebos company, Randall Martin speaks with Nicolás McCormick, the production’s Assistant Director and Sound Designer. Here, Nicolás recounts how the play’s soundscapes helped the cast to channel the more-than-human characters they embodied onstage.

In this fourth interview with the cast and crew of Mónica Maffía's Setebos company, Randall Martin speaks with Sophía Drever, who played the parts of actor Teresa, Cimbelino’s Ínogen, and the mythical Ter-Wer. Sophía discusses her recent journey from opera to Shakespeare and the emotional transformations of her three interlinked characters.

In this third interview with the cast and crew of Mónica Maffía's Setebos company, Randall Martin speaks with Alejandro Delgado, who created visual, lighting, and video art for Cimbelino en la Patagonia. Here, Alejandro discusses his collaborative methods with Mónica, the difficulty of balancing individual and collective views of environmental issues, and his own physical perspective on the spiritual experiences of nature.
Setebos Interviews: Irina Solomonoff
In this second interview with the cast and crew of Setebos' recent performance of Cimbelino en la Patagonia, Randall Martin speaks with Irina Solomonoff, who plays the actor Ángeles as well as Posthumo, Pisanio, and Cóndor in Mónica Maffía's play-within-a-play. Read on to learn about Irina's background, how she developed the physicality of each of her characters, and her interpretation of Posthumo's motivations throughout the play.
